He also developed a technique to stain nerve fibers and nerve endings (named the Bodian stain) and made major contributions to the knowledge of the basic structure of nerve cells. No third edition of volume two was published, so this mixed edition constitutes the final state of the text, these being the American issues with both volumes first published by Churchill in London, as with all the editions of the Manual.
